Conductive Education is a holistic, movement-based Educational Therapy System designed for children and adults with motor disabilities (such as Cerebral Palsy) to enable them to overcome their difficulties so that they can lead a more independent life to their greatest potential.
This method targets the whole personality, develops movement and communication, as well as cognitive and social abilities. Conductive Education was first practised by Dr Andras Petö in Hungary during the 1950's and developed into an internationally recognised therapy system that is delivered in centres around the world. The Ranger Foundation Centre is the only place in Mauritius where such therapies are provided.
Qualified specialists, so called “conductors”, are highly trained to provide a complex therapy program which involves active physical action, speech and language exercises and improving the participants' learning and problem-solving abilities.
The conductor motivates each student in a fun and child-friendly way, so that they become willing to initiate the necessary movements by themselves. Each conductor encourages our students to accept as much support as necessary (so they feel secure) but at the same time to seek as little help as possible (leading to independence).
